Gail Curtis Owner Elegant Portions

Gail Curtis Before

  Welcome Letter

I am Gail Curtis, the owner/operator of Elegant Portions®. Welcome to our site!

Originally named Wine-Trax®, this whole thing started because I like wine and wanted to watch my portions without having to get the measuring cup – especially when entertaining. I taught myself to etch while furloughed from my job designing luxury bus interiors in the 2009 economic downturn. Thanks to my misfortune, I’ve been able to develop a complete set of portion-control dinnerware that’s easy to use and subtle enough to serve to guests. My greatest reward is hearing that we’ve helped customers with their weight loss or diabetes challenges and they love our products – that’s my favorite part of this business.

My decades-long quest to conquer weight issues and improve self-esteem is ongoing. I believe it began as this very sensitive child was teased unmercifully after wearing a dress with an all-over pig print to elementary school. Looking back, I was a normal-weight child for my age, but the “piggy, piggy” seed was planted and early-life tragedy kept the ball rolling.

For decades, this weight-loss and self-improvement guinea pig (no put intended!) for has read a jillion books, joined health clubs and clinics, gone through therapy, ordered video/dvd/cassette programs, taken pills, shots, shakes and powders, and tried numerous fad diets and positive affirmations. Coming within two pounds of my goal weight, it remained elusive. I’m sure a psychologist would have an explanation for this self-defeat, but I wouldn’t have designed this collection had I not needed it!

Most recently, I was a vegan for eight months; then realized the soy supplements and processed foods were making me gain. For 2014, back to whole, unprocessed foods (including poultry and fish) on my Meal-Trax® plate, of course!  After a recent physical, my blood, cholesterol, etc. levels were very healthy, with my doctor’s only advice being to lose 10 pounds. Maybe I’ll lose eight, but I’m going to stop right there. What would life be without a quest?

It’s a pleasure to be of service and I hope my products will help you in your quest.

Wishing you good health and happiness,
Gail

About Our Products

How are these different from other portion control products out there?

These pieces were designed specifically to monitor portions discreetly. The frosted lines on each piece which indicate portions are subtle and elegant looking. You can set your table with them, and enjoy eating alongside your guests.

How do your products work with national health organizations' guidelines for wellness?

We were excited to learn that our elegant “tools” also provide a practical solution to following the 2011 USDA & AHA recommendations for healthy food and drink portions.

Are products safe for the dishwasher and microwave?

Yes, all of our glassware is safe to use in your dishwasher and microwave. Our products are restaurant quality, made of annealed glass which creates a more stable structure. (The plastic Snack-Trax lid is not microwave-safe.)

Where are they manufactured?

Our products are made by the largest manufacturer of glassware in North America. Glasses and bowls are made in America, plates are made in Mexico.
